I was so lucky to have been able to go on the Brand new Norwegian Getaway inaugural sailing. This is Norwegian's newest ship that will be sailing year round out of Miami. The inaugural was out of New York, hence the snow. I really enjoyed this ship. The design is the same as the Breakaway, its sister ship, that sails out of New York.
The Stateroom design was wonderful, utilizing all the space made it feel big. We were in a balcony cabin aft, port side, which I really liked. The bathrooms, much better design than the Epic, had a spot for everything. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony was on the small side but I did like the new door locking mechanism.
The entertainment was very good. We were only on board for 2 nights but we were able to watch Legally Blond, the Illusionarium, howl at the Moon, Grammy nominee Nestor Torres ( in the new Grammy Experience) and Burn the floor. I truly enjoyed all of them. I especially was surprised how much I liked the illusionarium, my husband laughed so hard at one point he was crying. We did miss the comedy show.
There are 27 dining options. I wish I could have tried them all but unfortunately that was not possible. Ocean Blue by iron chef Zakarian was a very popular, so if you are booked on the Getaway book it early. The restaurants that are included in your cruise price, the Garden cafe, The Tropicana with live Latin music, Taste and O'Sheehan all wonderful. O'Sheehan's has an Irish pub feel and the best part is the chicken wings. Another wonderful addition to this ship is deck 8, the waterfront. You can walk around the entire ship over looking the ocean on one side, the other side has outside seating for the specialty restaurants. You could enjoy some gelato or maybe a lobster roll or just sit and enjoy a mojito at the sugarcane.
It was too cold to swim, although the hot tubs were open but I didn't see anyone in them. The rope coarse was open, so I tried it. The weather was cold I think they said with the wind chill factor it was 20 below and it was windy. It was fun and scarey, John walked the plank, that was way to scarey for me. They also had basketball, miniature golf, rock climbing wall, jogging track, Racing waterslides, The plunge that drops you and a friend straight down then around loops to the finish. They had fireworks off the back of the ship the first night. This is something they will have on all their sailing out of Miami. The back of the ship had Spice H20 an adult only section.
I really liked this ship and next time will have to sail out of Miami, so I can enjoy the top deck and more of those great specialty restaurants.
